FIU Journalism Day/Florida Scholastic Press Association District 6 Workshop Braddock TV won Third Place overall.

Ms. Cindy Rodriguez, Entheos Yearbook Adviser was selected Teacher of the Year for District 6 representing all the
Journalism teachers in Miami Dade and Monroe county. She will be competing for State Teacher of the Year in May of 2015.

Congratulations to Alvaro Rivadeneira for representing G. Holmes Braddock Senior High this weekend in Cross Country State Finals in Tallahassee.

Alvaro Rivadeneira place 55th overall in the 5k out of 189 runners with his personal record time of 16:53.

Alvaro ranked 10th among all Dade County Public School Runners that participated.

Congratulations to Yanely Garcia (junior) who has been nominated to represent G. Holmes Braddock for the Sunshine State Scholars Program.

This is a mathematics/science recognition program for high school juniors throughout Florida.

Braddock “Bulldogs” Marching Band earned the overall Rating of Superior at the District Music Performance Assessment Evaluations that took place in Traz Powell Stadium at Miami Dade College

They received Superior in Ensemble music, Individual Performance, and Auxiliary (Color Guard).

They also were awarded, Excellent in Marching, and Visual Effect.

Braddock Theatre Arts students attended and performed at the District 8 One Act Play Festival at Hialeah Sr. High,. 28 schools presented one act plays for adjudication.

Our Braddock students performed a stage adaptation of Gertrude Stein's First Reader and received an Excellent Rating. They did an outstanding job and we were one of only eight schools to receive this rating.

The cast and technical staff for the production included: Samantha Angel-Bello, Katherine Cuevas, Tommy Casparian, Joy Batallan, Damian Soris, Idania Ramos, Ritchie Rodriguez, Raul Martinez, Helen Lopez, Emily Gonzalez, Sheila Pereda, Laura Gomez and Daniel Benitez.

Tommy Casparian was also awarded an All-Star Cast Award for outstanding acting performance work.

On October 12, 2013 our students competed at a competition at Miami Beach HS. This competition had over 600 students participating, almost all events had over 50 competitors.

Here are the results:

  • 3rd Place - Novice Public Forum Debate - Nicholas Mayor & Hansel Garcia
  • 3rd Place - Varsity Duo - Alejandro Martinez & Manuel Menocal (They Are Novices - But Competed In Varsity!)
  • 3rd Place - Varsity Oral Interpretation - Cindy Hernandez (She Is A Novice - But Competed In Varsity!)

This competition had over 500 students participating! For most of our students it was their first competition ever

Congratulations to Bruno Ferrini and Mr. Hechavarria from the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Brunno’s art work was accepted in the "Art of Collaged Organic Imagery @ Pinecrest Gardens Exhibition"

Mr. Ferrini (12 Grade) will receive an Award of Distinction and Excellence for “ Incredible Gardens” The Art of Collaged Organic Imagery.

The ceremony will take place Thursday, October 17, from 6-8 pm. The celebrations will feature music by Steel Drum Band students from Oak Grove Elementary and refreshments by DAE. The Incredible Gardens show is on view now through October 18 @ the beautiful Pinecrest Gardens. Exhibition is sponsored by Pinecrest Gardens and Dade Art Educators Association. The event is free and open to the public."

Congratulatons to Ethson Villegas and Christopher Cuevas who have been selected as 2013-14 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars. This is an important academic achievement.

In addition, Christopher Cuevas is a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

The boys and the girls swim team brings home another win! Both teams defeated Barbara Goleman during last nights' meet. The girls team came out strong with Junior Kyani Tyrell placing First in the 100 yard butterfly. Junior Savannah Megens also placed First in the 200 yard freestyle. The boys team was lead again by junior Ronald Hernandez and Marcel Jane, who placed First and Second in both of their individual events - the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay, with brothers Marcel & Damian Jane; Ronald Hernandez & John Bermundez had to hustle during the last event in order to secure the win in this close meet. Please take the time to congratulate and recognize the hard work the athletes have put into bringing home another victory for the bulldogs!

Cambridge International Examinations has just released the June 2013 world averages. G. H. Braddock exceeded world averages in 7 of 20+ exams that were administered:

  1. English Language
  2. General Paper
  3. Spanish Language
  4. Spanish Literature
  5. Thinking Skills
  6. Sociology
  7. Mathematics

Many others were in striking distance! Keep up the good work :)

We would like to congratulate Kassandra Fallon (Grade 10) for her acceptance into the Hispanic Heritage Month Visual Arts Exhibition. This exhibition will be on display in the auditorium gallery of the School Board Administration Building. This high profile exhibition is viewed by School Board Members, community dignitaries, and thousands of visitors.

We would like to congratulate our very own FCCLA members Kathia Rivera and Elizabeth Gomez who won GOLD at the FCCLA Leadership Conference this summer in Nashville! Their project was "Helping Hands for American Heroes" - they completed a donation drive and donated their handmade quilts to homeless veterans here in Miami.
