The Parent Academy of Miami Dade County Public Schools will be hosting the "Charting a New Course Parent Summit," which will focus on helping parents set and achieve personal empowerment goals for higher education and career advancement, Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at F.I.U. Modesto A Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL.

Session topics will include:
* American Citizenship and Immigration Information - covering new updates on immigration laws and citizenship.


* MDCPS Adult Technical and Career Education - presenting information about vocational, technical, high school completion and citizenship classes throughout Miami Dade County Public Schools.


* Albizu University, Barry University and Nova Southeastern University - presenting programs designed specifically for the adult learner, diverse cultural ethnic backgrounds, and how to obtain college credit for professional work experiences, community activities and learning experiences outside of the classroom.


* Resource fair will showcase various programs, colleges and universities and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, apply for financial aid, and register for courses on-site. The summit is a free event. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation and childcare is also available upon request.

* Registration is open through eventbrite *

Braddock High School Baseball field trip


The Institute for Child and Family Health, Inc. is currently offering an array of services in schools, the community, and homes for children, adolescents and adults from ages 6 to 21 years.

* Behavioral Counseling for:
Depression, anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities, disruptive behaviors, anger management, substance use, poor coping skills, poor impulse control, distractibility, and non-compliance with attendance, instruction, rules and regulations (6-21 years).

* Case Management:
o Linking services, doctor's appointments, housing, shelter, food, clothing, physical needs, and other basic needs (6-17 years).

* Psychiatric:
o Assessment, medication management, consultation, etc. (6-17 years).

* Psychological Testing:
o Intellectual functioning, academic assessment, psycho-educational skills for daily living (6-17 years).

* Grant Programs:
o Empowerment, anger management groups, SNAP (Stop Now and Plan), and functional family therapy.

Moving Up Ahead

This workshop is available for parents of students in the Title I Program.
Presenters will focus on information about providing parents with resources about the transition to move from Elementary to Middle, and Middle to High School.

Highlights:

  • Tips on what to know about the school.
  • The importance of communication with the school.
  • How family involvement promotes an easy transition to move ahead.

Vaccines for Students

English | Spanish | Creole

The attached letters in three languages, from the Florida Health Department inform parents about several vaccines available for adolescent students. These vaccines are not required for school entry, but are highly recommended to protect students against certain diseases. These vaccines include Meningococcal vaccine, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Hepatitis A, and Tdap Booster. The Florida Health Department can provide these vaccines to students having no insurance free of charge (through 18 years of age). Some of these vaccines are part of university or college admission requirements. Please distribute the attached letters to parents of students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.
