On Friday the Cross Country runners raced in the GMAC tournament at Larry and Penny Thompson Park. Braving the elements, our dauntless runners ran through intermittent rain, over a soggy course. Senior Maria Valdivia equaled her result from last year as she finished up at the silver medal winner in colossal Girls field of 135 runners. Maria was leading at the half way point in the race and finished the race in a time of 20:23. In the past three years Maria finished third as a sophomore and second as a junior and senior. Fellow senior Jesteffer Annichiarico, fell just short of defending his GMAC Championship from last year. His time of 16:27 earned him a silver medal in the gargantuan Boys field of 182 runners.

The Girls team finished in 7th place for the event. Kathleen Benitez finished 14th individually turning in a time of 21:55. Angelique Portuguese finished 28th with a time of 23:06. The Boys team finished in 10, but 4 of the runners ran their best times of the year. Jesteffer's younger brother Jeisson Annichiarico was the 2nd Bulldog to cross the finish line in a time of 19:00. Finishing right after Jeisson was Jose Cardona with a time of 19:05. Eder Mejia, Yusuf Nganga, Richard Castro and Angelo Espinoza all turned in their best times of the season.

Our Lady Bulldog Bowling team has qualified for the GMAC tournament, yet again this year. The tournament will be on Thursday October 30 at Bird Bowl. Wish our Lady Bulldogs luck. With a team of inexperienced high school bowlers, Coach Siegmeister has managed to keep our audacious lady bowlers in the top part of our District, where they have been for the past several years. Next week they will be bowling in the District tournament, looking to earn another trip to the State Tournament.

Come out and support our Bulldog Football team as they battle with Sunset on Saturday November 1 at Tropical Park. Kickoff is at 7:00. Our football team is still very much in the playoff battle, they need to win on Saturday. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Tonight our Lady Bulldog Volleyball team is in action in the District Quarterfinal game. Braddock plays Sunset at 6:00 in the Southwest gym. If they win tonight, they will be playing Ferguson at 7:30 tomorrow in Southwest.

Tomorrow our Swimming team will compete in the District tournament at Tamiami Pool all day.

Winter sports practices have begun and are almost in full force.

The girls soccer team will have it's first game on Thursday in the Carrolton Pre Season Classic. The team is being coached by first year Coach Lazaro Buchillon and he is being assisted by Alejandra Arguello.

The boys soccer team will have it's first game next week in the Ferguson Pre Season Classic.

Yesterday our Lady Bulldog Basketball team and the wrestling team started practice for the season.

The only team waiting in the wings to start practice is our gallant Boys Basketball team.

The Bulldog Cross Country team was the most successful of all our teams this weekend. Our Lady Bulldogs finished 5th in the Junior Orange Bowl Invitational. The Lady Bulldogs were led by senior Maria Valdivia who finished 2nd in the race. For the second straight major race, she was the highest placing Dade County Public school runner. She posted a time of 20:26. Kathleen Benitez finished 15th with a time of 22:55. If you look closely at Maria's picture you will see her fashion statement with her flashy and dazzling (but I would not call them flamboyant) socks.

Not to be outdone was fellow senior Jesteffer Annichiarico, who won this race with a time of 16:43, which was over 9 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Jesteffer's time was 7 seconds faster than his time in last week's Youth Fair Invitational.

The cross country team will be running in the GMAC Race this Friday, where Jesteffer hopes to defend the GMAC Championship which he won last year. At the same time Maria is hoping to win a GMAC Championship in Cross Country to compliment the one that she won last year in track, in the 2 mile race. She was also the Runner Up in the GMAC Cross Country race last year.

Our Lady Bulldog bowling team improved it's record to 7 - 1 with a win over Hialeah on Thursday 4 - 3. What this means is that our Lady Bulldogs won 2 of the 3 games played and won the match even though the Lady TBreds scored more pins in total. Natalie Alvarez had the high game 139 and Meagan Hernandez had the high set 370. The Lady Bulldogs have matches left with Coral Park and Reagan this week, followed by the GMAC and District tournaments in the upcoming weeks. I do not think that any of this years bowlers are using the same ostentatious Sponge Bob bowling ball that was being used last year.

The accolades for junior golfer Jaime Rodriguez keep adding up. Last year he was the GMAC Champion, District Runner Up, State Qualifier and All-Dade selection, this past week he won his District Championship. Not only did Jaime beat the colossal field, he managed to defeat the Youth Fair Champion Marcelo Huarte of Columbus. In honor of his outstanding tournament, Jaime was named the Upset of the week by the Miami Herald.

Our swimming team had the week off, but they are also back in action at the GMAC swim meet this week.

Our Bulldog football team is looking to rebound from last week's tough loss to North Miami Beach as they focus on the heart of the District Football stretch. First up is Ferguson this Friday night at FIU. We are the away team as Ferguson will be the home team. For the second time in 2 weeks we are the homecoming opponent for the football team.

October 10, 2008

In my haste to let you know all the wonderful results for the week, I neglected the boys and girls Cross Country teams. The individuals had a marvelous race at Florida Runners, which is now a National event. Below you will find the results as stated with pride from Coach Cano.

All of the runners that represented Braddock had personal records while competing with some of the best cross country runners in the state. Maria Valdivia had a personal record (19:24). Angelique Portugues also had a personal record (21:52).

Jesteffer (15:58) personal best - Top Dade county runner for public schools!!

The following all got personal records
Jose Cardona - 18:38
Jeisson Annichiarico 18:49 (freshman)
Ricard Castro 22:03 (which he beat this week at Tropical - 22:00)
Alex Sanchez - 22:28

Unfortunately, the boys team did not fare as well at the smaller meet on Tuesday. With the comforts of home and slower opponents most of our boys had slower times when compared to the race over the weekend. This race did provide one of the most peculiar finishes of all time. Jesteffer managed to tied with 10 other runners. They all crossed at exactly time.

I just wanted to take a little bit of time to update you on the stupendous results of our Fall Sports teams.

The team that has been the most astonishing has to be our Girls JV Volleyball team. Right now they are 10 - 1 in District Games and 12 - 3 overall for the season. The girls were ecstatic during a 3 week span in which they won 7 straight games with out losing a single match in any game. In Volleyball the JV plays 3 games to 25, the first team to win 2 games wins and in Varsity it is best 3 out of 5. Our JV Girls team has won 10 of their matches 2 games to none.

Our Girls Varsity Volleyball team has been almost as good. While the team is greatly improved over last season, I believe their less then consistent stellar play has left Coach Strauss anything but elated.

Our JV Football team has a 3 - 1 record heading into next weeks final game at home against Southwest on Wednesday. This Tuesday they defeated Sunset who tried to take a play from the Dolphins eccentric play book and snapped the ball directly to their running back. However, our defense is better than the Patriots and didn't allow them to score. The game ended with a exquisite goal line stand as time expired. With the score 16 - 6 and Sunset looking to make it closer, Sunset drove the ball to the 1 yard line, but were denied the touchdown by our Bulldog defense.

Our Varsity Football team is currently riding a school record 3 straight games in which our opponents were shut out. The shut out streak started in the 2nd half of the Ronald Reagan game, so it is currently at 14 quarters in which our defense has held our opponents scoreless. The defense has come up with several big plays during the streak, goal line stands, turnovers in the red zone and they even block 2 field goals in the Goleman game to keep the Gators off the score board. While our team is looking dazzling in their new uniforms, their play on the field has been even better. The team is 4 - 0 for only the second time in school history and looking to match last year's 5 - 0 start by beating the Rams of Coral Park tomorrow night at Tropical Park.

Our Golf team has had a marvelous month of October, they have played in 3 matches and are undefeated in them. Last week they defeat Southwest and Varela by several shots. This week they defeated Ferguson on Monday by 3 shots in the closest match of the season and they followed that up by a 30 shot victory over Miami Springs on Tuesday. In all 3 match Junior Jaime Rodriguez was the medalist (the golfer with the lowest score). The results have left Coach Kaufman in a jubilant mood as his team is preparing for Districts next week.

Our bowling teams are looking well and hopping to advance to the State tournament again this season. They have had staying consistent because of the idiosyncratic nature of the season, sometimes there are 10 days between matches and in another week they have 3 matches. The girls bowling team are the 5 time defending District Champions.

Several of our teams are in action today and they all will be missing some portion of school today.

The Swim team is on their way to Orlando for a tournament. They will be excused all day and should already be appearing as so in your gradebook.

The Girls Volleyball team, Cross Country team and Golf team all have matches at 3:30 this afternoon. Due to the pep rally and transportation issues they all are excused from 5th period today.

Let me take a little time to update you on how well our teams did yesterday.

First, our girls Volleyball team was able to defeat Sunset pretty easily 3 games to 1. Braddock was led by Stephanie Muniz who had 6 kills, 13 digs, 10 points (2 of which were aces), Ingrid Cabrera had 11 points and 13 digs, while Nancy Lacayo had 15 assists with 8 digs. From the brief part of the game I got to watch I have to say that Clayon Wilson had a dazzling block, that just left Sunset speechless. Next week our Lady Bulldogs play 3 games: Coral Gables here on Monday and then at Ferguson on Tuesday and at Coral Park on Friday.

At Calusa Country Club our golf team was able to defeat South Miami, Southwest and Varela. Our golfers were lead by Jaime Rodriguez who shot an exquisite 36, even par.

Down in Homestead our swimming team put up a valiant fight, but could not defeat South Dade. However Gustavo Chan was able to win all 4 of his events: 200 IM, 100 Backstroke, 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay.

Tonight at the ravishing new FIU Stadium our Bulldogs will be looking to push their scoreless streak to 3 games as we take on the Gators of Goleman. We are the very first game high school game to be played in this new stadium. Kickoff has been pushed back to 7:30 for this special night. Please come out and support our football team. We will be in the home side stands (the new seats) and parking will be in the south side of the stadium.

September 29, 2008
Friday night at Tropical Park our Bulldogs took their first step in defending their District Championship by shutting down the Vipers by a score of 28 - 0. The game was not as close as score makes it sound. Varela's offense could not get started as our defense continually took the ball away.

This Thursday night our Bulldogs will play in the first high school football game at FIU's exquisite new Stadium. It looked good on TV 2 weekends ago, but I know it looks better in person, so come by and watch our Bulldogs eat some Gator meat. If haven't been to a game in the past 2 weeks you need to see our football team in their dazzling new white uniforms.

On Wednesday night our Lady Bulldogs look to rebound from last weeks tough matches and defeat the Knights of Sunset. If all goes well our Lady Bulldogs will be able to wear their ravishing new uniforms.

On Wednesday our Golf team travels to Calusa Country Club to play South Miami, Southwest and Varela. Followed by a match with South Dade on Friday at Redland

Our Swimming team has 2 events this week. On Wednesday they are traveling to Homestead to swim against South Dade and then on Friday they are swimming against Coral Reef and Miami Beach.

Our Bowling team takes on Northwestern at Bird Bowl on Thursday.

Finally our Cross Country team it traveling up the state to race in the Florida Runners Invitational. The Boys team is lead by Jessteffer Annichiarico who has either won or come in second in every meet this year, including last week's Spanish River Race. The girls are lead by Maria Valdivia who is constantly lowering her time as the year goes on, she finished 5th this past weekend in Spanish River.

Here is a recap of the results from yesterday (the football article comes from the Miami Herald).

Football
Braddock 45, Ronald Reagan 7: Despite numerous penalties, Braddock was able to accumulate more than 300 yards rushing, and got five of its six touchdowns on the ground.

Anthony Semino put Braddock on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown run that was set up by long runs from Billy Kinsey and Alex Castro. Kinsey had nine carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns, including a 50-yard scoring run.

Hansley Fleuresus had an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and finished with 51 yards and two touchdowns.

Reagan scored on a 70-yard pass from Melvin Brownlee to Michael Lopez in the second quarter.

Braddock defensive back Spencer Monestime got the first of his two interceptions on the final play of the first half.

In the third quarter, Braddock's Gio Oviedo kicked a 30-yard field goal. In the last scoring play of the game, Hansley Fleuresus recovered his own fumble and 43 yards for a touchdown.-- TREVOR DOYLE

Golf

Braddock 193, Sunset 232, Varela 235. Our golf team improved to 3 - 0 on the season.

Girls Volleyball

The girls lost a heartbreaker to Sunset 3 games to 1. The girls lost the 4th game by 2 points that would have sent the match into a deciding 5th game.
