General Operating Procedures
In order to maintain inventory control and to provide a more productive learing environment for our students, the following procures should be observed:
No food or drinks are allowed in the Media Center.
Return all books to the circulation desk.
Do not re-shelve books. Place books in a designated area so that Media Center personnel may re-shelve them.
Do not exit using the back door.
After using the Media Center, students should leave it neat and ready to use for the next class.
Encyclopedias and reference materials must be returned to the shelf in their proper order.
If a student has a pass to go to the Media Center, when they arrive they must sign in and he/she should leave 10 minutes before the end of the period.

Parents are welcome in the Media Center.
Computer/Printers
The Media Center computers are available to students and staff for academic purposes.
Internet acess allows you to explore and locate a variety of subjects.
Library computers share a limited amount of printers and scanners. Please be considerate of others.
Individual computer use may be limited due to high demand.
Students using computers inappropriately may lose computer use privileges.
Printing in the library is permitted, however, there is a charge of .10 cents per page.
Teachers: To request a lab date for your classes, please see a media specialist to sign up in the morning. before 7:30 AM.

Cash only for copy machine and printer.

 

 

 

Fiction

Fiction books are placed alphabetically by the author's last name. i.e., F MEY for Stephenie Meyer.

 

Biographies
Biographies are books written about famous or infamous people. They are cataloged by the call number 92. i.e., A book about Dan Marino is:

Non-Fiction
Non-fiction books are numbered sequentially i.e., 810.8 SOY.
Similar books are shelved together.
A description of what the organization numbers represent is available from Media Center personnel upon request.
Reference Section
Call numbers for books are "R" and cannot be checked out.

Encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, and other non-fiction books are in this section.

Magazines/Newspapers
A variety of magazines and newspapers are available everyday.
Magazines may be checked out on a daily basis.

Newspaper sections are available, but only one section per student.

 
Checkout Policy
Students may check out up to five books at a time.
Books may only be checked out for a two week period and may be renewed for an additional two weeks.

Fines for overdue books are .05 a day per book.

Go to Destiny.Dadeschools.net
On the home page, change the pull down location tab to Miami-Dade Public Schools
Type in the title, go to copies and you find other school libraries that have the book.
Then come to the library and we will order the book for you.
