G. Holmes Braddock AOIT Students Visit Perry Ellis International
By: Jeanine Trabanco
On February 7th, twenty-four students from G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School ventured to Perry Ellis International in Doral, Florida to take part in the National Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a national campaign designed to give students a new perspective on their studies through hands-on learning.
At Perry, the students were split into two groups and given a personal tour throughout the corporation. Students were shown the inner workings of Perry’s Management of Information Systems (MIS) departments. The students who participated are all members of the Academy of Information Technology (a NAF member program).
“I really enjoyed the job shadow experience,” said Javier Arias, 16, Junior. “The graphic design process of taking photos from model shoots and editing them for catalogs and websites was interesting.”
Perry Ellis International is a leading designer, distributor and licensor of apparel and accessories for men and women. The company, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, owns or licenses a portfolio of brands that includes 29 of the leading names in fashion such as Perry Ellis®, Savane®, Jantzen®, Original Penguin® by Munsingwear®, Cubavera®, Laundry by Shelli Segal®, Gotcha®, Callaway® Golf Apparel, Nike® Swim, C&C California®, Pierre Cardin® and Grand Slam®.
“The relationship between G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School and Perry Ellis International has been exceptionally beneficial over the past five years,” said Ron Ferguson, Magnet Lead Teacher. “Luis Paez, Chief Information Officer at Perry, has been very supportive of our AOIT students. Events like National Job Shadow Day truly demonstrate to students the correlation between their academy coursework and the real-world.”
